For a more complete list, please see The focus of this position will be the Fair Oaks Perioperative Value Stream, overseeing the Operating Room, Pre-Surgical Services, Pre-Op, PACU, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics and Physical Therapy. The Senior Director of Nursing directs the clinical operations of perioperative services, as well as a 42-bed Surgical Orthopedic unit and the hospitalA cents € (TM) s Physical Therapy Clinic. There are 6 direct reports and the position reports to the Chief Executive Officer. In 2015, the department was responsible for over 12,000 surgical procedures, of which 9,162 were outpatient procedures. This care was provided by more than 360 surgeons. There are 14 ORs. This position assumes overall responsibility for the development, coordination and evaluation of clinical programs of nursing care, education and research related activities for designated clinical divisions/departments. The Senior Director is responsible for the selection of Patient Care Directors and Nurse Managers. S/he maintains a strong focus on the development and support of individual Patient Care Directors and Nurse Managers. In collaboration with the CNE, the Senior Director is responsible for the implementation of system wide initiatives related to nursing and model of care with particular emphasis on continuity of care, the nurse-patient-family relationship/experience and the development of appropriate accountability systems. S/he works collaboratively with other disciplines and departments to ensure that programs are well planned and that services are fully integrated to ensure a patient-centered, outcome driven approach to care. S/he is responsible for the appropriate management of human, fiscal and material resources within his or her division. S/he may act on behalf of the CNE in her/his absence and depending on facility, a matrix reporting for non-nursing related issues to Vice Presidents and Service Line Administrators. S/he participates with the CNE in long range planning, goal setting and program development related to nursing. S/he works collaboratively with respective Physician Chairpersons, CMO and Service Line Administrators in program development and all departmental initiatives. S/he participates with Senior Management in policy development and program planning. S/he provides direction and management to direct reports and all employees in department. S/he handles employee relations and staff development for direct reports, develops goals and manages fiscal activities of the department. IND1 Requirements Minimum Requirements: Progressive leadership experience at the director level. Minimum of 4 years of Director nursing experience required. MasterA cents € (TM) s Degree in Nursing Certification in clinical specialty. Certified in nursing administration within one year of hire Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia. Proof required within 30 days of hire. Demonstrates progress in management and leadership experience in an academic medical center or teaching hospital. Ability to work collaboratively with nurses, physicians and administrative colleagues. Excellent communication skills. Strong commitment to nursing excellence, the nursing profession and to involvement in professional activities. Certification in nursing administration preferred within one year of hire.
