Press Operator (3rd Shift)

(www.scantron.com; www.harlandts.com) Position Summary Operates and maintains offset printing presses including all special functions with minimum supervision. Utilizes experience to improve operations and service to Scantron customers. Operator is able to run good quality work while keeping high standards of production and paper usage according to Print Services standards. Key Duties / Responsibilities Essential duties are identified by asterisks. Quality and Production Expectation: To operate minimally at defined production and waste levels while consistently producing quality product as defined by Scantron standards and customer expectations. Reads and understands schedules, job tickets and multi-part specifications. Sets-up and operates offset printing presses including all special functions. Prints forms that meet Scantron standards and customer expectations. Monitors and accurately records paper consumption and plate remakes. Reports plate remakes to supervisor. Enters all machine codes, subcodes, material codes, quantities and time periods accurately for production records. Achieves daily production redlines. Gets signoff b the quality auditor and/or designate before the 1st lift (cutsheet), before roll #2 (roll to roll) or before the 2nd carton (continuous). Participates in improvement teams to improve processes and lower operating costs and improve service to customers. Understand the basic ISO 9001 concept and support actions and solutions to quality issues within the ISO framework. Maintenance Troubleshoots printing and numbering problems effectively with minimal waste. Contacts supervisor when equipment problems can not be solved within a defined period of time or if a work order is needed. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Reports equipment safety concerns to supervisor. Records press maintenance in Press Maintenance Log. Locates spare parts using Spare Parts Inventory Lists and records Parts Usage Ticket. Organization Keeps work area, work benches, equipment, tools, supplies, skids, packaging materials, records, ink, printed forms and waste neat, clean and organized. Communicates all pertinent production information to back-up. Understands all forms utilized in Press operations, where they are located and how they are completed. Training May assist in training Press Apprentices. May train Press Apprentices and Press Operators to develop areas of identified weaknesses. May cross train Press Apprentices and Press Operators to run additional equipment or special functions. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Manufacturing Education & Knowledge Required High school graduate or GED required. B. Former Scantron Press Apprentice meeting criteria for promotion to Press Operator or equivalent relevant job experience within the printing industry. Experience / Skills / Abilities Required Communicates and interacts with other employees in a positive and effective manner. Possesses good mechanical aptitude. Refines and expands skills learned as a Press Apprentice. Possesses basic mathematical skills. Follows safe operating procedures.
