PenFed is hiring a Senior Analytics and Optimization Strategist in our McLean, Virginia Headquarters. The primary purpose of this job is to drive the new generation of digital experiences at PenFed. The Strategist owns the continuous improvement of the conversion rate of PenFed’s digital properties.  Reporting to the VP of Digital, you will leverage your understanding of A/B & Multivariate Testing, Personalization, Information Architecture (IA), User Journeys, and Analytics to manage the continuous improvement workflow.

The Strategist will spend their day to day working with executives and product mangers to understand and quantify digital performance and optimize the experience.  The incumbent will be an advocate for the business as well as the consumer, with proven experience in planning and managing analytics and a digital optimization workflow. This will be accomplished through successfully A/B and multivariate testing (Adobe Target), reviewing analytics (Omniture), and user testing.


Testing & Data Analysis

    Understand what needs to be tested and who it should be tested on Collaborate with demand generation to target ideal test group Create, measure and execute on split test campaigns Conduct A/B & Multivariate testing Provide weekly data insights and analysis to shape approach and improve conversion Provide weekly conversion reporting and analysis for digital properties

Data Reporting & Analysis

    Support and provide guidance for ongoing ad-hoc reporting & analysis. Manage dashboards and reports in Adobe Analytics (Omniture) Gather, document and help form/guide client business requirements, key performance indicators and other functional and/or technical requirements Establish consistent reporting processes and cadence for analytics

Analytics Leadership

    You work to gather and understand business requirements, develop, and build customized solutions to meet PenFed’s analytic and reporting needs with the Adobe Analytics platform. Define and drive appropriate governance for analytics with clear standards around data usage, analytic approaches and decision-making aligned to central team. Responsible for establishing and managing the communication strategy that will enable transparency of metrics across the organization to key business partners.  Establish a strong relationship with data management, marketing, interface, platform, and insights team.

    Possess a “testing mindset;” default attitude is to test and not doubt new ideas. Be highly analytical; comfortable with numbers and reports and rely on them to make and interpret creative efforts. Have the ability to articulate complex ideas to multiple stakeholders with different levels of knowledge and understanding. Confidently reverse-engineer and practice objective hindsight. You'll need to be able to judge competitor activities and your own to figure out what works, what doesn't, and why. Confidently manage up and laterally. You’ll need to get approvals so you have the resources for your activities, and need to work across multiple teams and with your peers to get your projects completed.

Special Skills

    Present monthly status’ to Financial Product Executives. Collaborate with the user interface designers on creative vision and strategy. Review and apply findings of research and UX testing to guide conversion-centered solutions. Source, create, and edit content for the web as needed Manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing strategies. Communicate clearly with the creative, insights, interface, channels, platforms, and strategy team project objectives and deliverables Collaborate with designers and developers with an eye toward content communication and user flow.

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

    Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Statistics, Communications, Marketing or a related field is required. Minimum of seven (7) years’ of demonstrated effectiveness in a similar role. Minimum of five (5) years’ of experience with Omniture, Google Analytics and similar platforms. Minimum of three (3) years’ of experience with Optimizely, Test & Target, or similar. Light CSS, HTML, and JavaScript coding experience. Strong familiarity with web design and development processes, technologies, evidence-based practices.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.


Licenses and Certifications

Analytics Certification (Google, Site Catalyst, etc.)


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*



Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
