The Senior Manager, Creative Design will report to the Marketing Operations Director. POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Manager, Creative Design will set vision, strategy and long term plans to define key design and packaging initiatives for the for the US Consumer Products Division, with a focus on driving seamless integration of brand messaging on the McCormick family of brands. This position will oversee all components of the design department including but not limited to packaging, brand architecture and brand equity. The successful candidate will be required to effectively collaborate with key internal teams including, Marketing, Customer Planning, Commercialization, Print Production, Packaging Engineering Procurement as well as managing the team of in-house design, creative and production staff. In addition, this role will contribute to driving the vision and direction of the Design & Packaging organization. This person will serve as the lead contact for the design department while, implementing best in class tools to establish a winning retail shelf presence and focused decision making while consulting with teams on how to best reach the brand strategies and goals. This person will oversee the interactions with our business leaders, marketing, consumer research teams and key stakeholders to clearly understand project scope, deliverables and timing milestones to drive best in class status for McCormick USCPD Brands. RESPONSIBILITIES Supports and defines the design vision with the Marketing and the Innovation/Commercial Planning teams and participates in the development of the business strategy from a design perspective. Leads and stewards brand architecture and product portfolio strategies with the brand building leader. Leads design resources (internal/external) in the development of primary and secondary packaging to establish a winning retail shelf presence for the category and McCormick brands. Co-authors design briefs and effectively manages interactions with our business leaders, marketing, consumer research teams, and key stakeholders to understand project scope, deliverables and timing milestones. Leads packaging creative reviews and develop recommendations based on agreed upon creative strategy and design brief. Collaborates with Marketing Operations and procurement regarding the agency selection process and resource allocation and may serve as lead contact where appropriate. Observes design, aesthetic and color trends in the marketplace among competition on a regular basis and outlines implications for the business. Collaborates with marketing, commercialization, packaging engineering, print production, legal and other functions through the design and packaging development lifecycle. Demonstrates an ability to strategically connect consumer insights, cultural and market trends and business needs to deliver breakthrough design strategies for the business. Develops long range (3 to 5 years) strategic planning for package design and product portfolio. Coach, mentor and develop team members, foster collaboration, promote best practice sharing and creative design capability building throughout organization Leads development of design and shelving principles, driving seamless integration between out of store and instore messaging. Develops and executes packaging initiatives that drive demand, build brand equity, and improve at shelf communication. Own packaging framework that amplifies key new item launches while driving consumption. Identifies cost saving and waste elimination opportunities with an eye towards continual improvement and value creation. Collaborates with brand, sales, category management, agency and cross functional partners ensuring flawless execution of programs through strong project management, budgeting, creative briefing and score carding against established goals. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science of Fine Arts, Graphic Design (or equivalent) such as Visual Communication A minimum of 7 years' knowledge of brand identity, brand architecture, packaging design and marketing communication with at least 4 years of experience leading design and packaging programs. At least 2 years' design management experience within a multidisciplinary design and packaging team. Strong oral and written communication skills including ability to present and communicate with senior management and brand owners. Consumer packaged goods experience, ideally in food manufacturing. Proven ability to manage, influence, motivate and lead people. Strong agency management, people management and cross functional leadership.
