Job Purpose To maintain payroll-related accounting as well as the reconciliation and accuracy of those accounts. This includes payroll, taxes and garnishments. In addition to this, researches and advises payroll staff concerning the accounting and tax treatment of complex transactions. Perform periodic internal audits of payroll and prepare materials for external or internal auditors. Salary for this position is $52,000 - $55,000 annually plus benefits. These five duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review. 1. Payroll Accounting Complete posting to GL accounts after payroll is finalized each pay period. Reconcile all payroll liability accounts monthly. Analyze and resolve errors in a timely manner; support payroll variance with proper documentation. Maintain payroll-related accounts and determine the need for new accounts and revisions in the account structure. 2. Tax Administration Reconcile payroll taxes to ADP SmartCompliance per payroll, quarterly and annually. Responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Respond to regulatory agencies regarding tax notices. Research laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures and advise payroll staff on the treatment of complex transactions. 3. Wage Garnishment Administration Reconcile wage garnishments to ADP SmartCompliance per payroll, quarterly and annually. Responsible for all wage garnishment activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. 4. Payroll Duties Act as a backup to payroll specialists. Run payroll related reports and processes to calculate, print and finalize payroll. Assist in the preparation of checks for distribution. 5. Auditing Reconcile/Report stale dated checks. Perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas. Prepare materials for external or internal auditors. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of payroll/accounting experience is required. * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred . * Fundamental Payroll Certification or Certified Payroll Professional is preferred. * Knowledge of payroll and tax laws and regulations. * Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). * Experience with Workday Payroll, ADP Tax Compliance and Microsoft Dynamics is a preferred. * Highly skilled in the use of Excel spreadsheets. * Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously. * Ability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently. * Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment. * Excellent analytical ability to gather and summarize data for report and problem solving. * Ability to work in a team environment or independently. * Ability to get the job done.
