Responsible for proactive and detailed monitoring and intelligence gathering of legislation, regulations, press publications, and Capitol Hill publications on a timely basis for a variety of issues including tax, financial services, trade, and higher education. Researching legislation and client-specific issues, communicating with clients on key developments, attending congressional hearings, and preparing materials for client meetings. Responding to and balancing multiple team and client requests on a time-sensitive basis, often in a dynamic, high-pressure environment. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Sr Government Affairs Specialist, lawyers, lobbyists, clients, and other staff ESSENTIAL DUTIES * The daily make up of tasks changes depending on department needs * Monitor legislation, press, and Capitol Hill publications for a variety of topics and issues of interest to our clients * Research legislation and client-specific issues * Attend congressional hearings * Prepare materials for client meetings * Manage the coordination of client projects * Interact with staffers on Capitol Hill to arrange client meetings and obtain legislative information * Plan and coordinate client and Hill-related events * Maintain client databases of lobbying information and client files ADDITIONAL DUTIES * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with legal and administrative personnel throughout the firm * Recognize the importance of superb, responsive client service and present the firm in a positive light * Successfully set priorities, perform tasks in an orderly fashion, and meet deadlines * Excellent written and oral communications skills and communicate effectively * Operate well without specific direction and close supervision, given general guidelines for the position; proactively seek out guidance as needed * Keep up with changing priorities, and be a strong team player, willing and able to jump in and take on new tasks and responsibilities * Remain calm and focused in pressure situations EXPERIENCE SKILLS REQUIRED * 12 months Capitol Hill or trade association work experience * Bachelor's degree * Background in tax and financial services policy issues, with an interest in building a strong knowledge base * Strong analytical skills, judgement, intellectual curiosity, and work ethic * Proactive, resilient self-starter with a desire for challenge and growth that likes to collaborate with a team * Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills, with ability to multitask * Uncompromising attention to detail and editing skills * Committed to contributing to high-performance culture, with strong client service mindset * Ability to manage up * Thrives in dynamic, high-pressure environment with quick turn-around deadlines. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet, and electronic information services BENEFITS We offer a dynamic work environment and excellent benefits.
