Job Description The Director Strategic Planning & Operations manages strategy and operations for US Government Affairs. The mission of Government Affairs is to drive legislation and shape regulations to ensure access to treatments and future innovation that aligns with Novartis' business, public policy, and reputational objectives. The Director of Strategy and Operations will support Government Affairs by ensuring the successful development, governance, and execution of federal and state strategic initiatives through partnership with internal cross-functional and cross-divisional stakeholders as well as external stakeholders. Additionally, this position will help facilitate communications, strategy objectives, and operations support to the US Government Affairs team. The role reports to the Country Head US Government Affairs and is a member of the Government Affairs Leadership team. Major Activities: * Drives the strategy process for US Government Affairs. Leads operational planning and performance monitoring. * Ability to synthesize information and data from multiple sources into succinct key messages with the ability to turn these key messages into presentation to senior leadership. * Strategically assess and disseminate critical information required to enhance Government Affairs with the businesses. * Responsible for innovative thinking and business recommendations to senior level leadership based on policy and legislative activity. * Interpret and monitor the industry for anticipated State and Federal market trends and customer needs. * Support leadership in US Government Affairs, Health Policy, and Divisions to conceptualize, design, and optimize strategic initiatives and project management. * Ensure all of appropriate teams are identified and included for key government affairs decisions - ensures all deadlines are met with teams. * Develop financial budgeting, tracking, and control of US Government Affairs operational budgets in concert with division finance. * Support communication of initiatives goals and results to key internal stakeholders and executives. * Manage operational activities and communication plans for Government Affairs including leadership meetings, Town Halls, etc. * Serves as member of Government Affairs Leadership team and advisor to Country Head US Government Affairs Minimum requirements * Bachelor Degree required. Master of Business Administration highly desired * Minimum 10 years of experience working with or working for the pharmaceutical industry * Functional experience in Consulting (with focus on Biopharmaceutical industry), * Understanding of US Federal Government and State Governments and their impact upon the pharmaceutical industry * Strong project management skills, experience at driving global projects across cross divisional teams * Proven ability to drive, collaborate, influence and operate across, functions, cultures and geographies * Proven leadership ability, strategic thinking and project management skills * Strong communication skills, demonstrated with C-suite audiences * Excellent analytical ability * Strong interpersonal skills - ability to network and communicate with top management of all functions * Results-based leadership style skill set with strong impact and influencing skills * Ability to communicate effectively and motivate teams and others, maintaining a persuasive and credible style at all levels of organization * Analytical, process-oriented with a strong drive to drive sustainable improvements
