JOB SUMMARY POSITION SUMMARY Entry-level position with a top global law and lobbying firm. Responsible for monitoring legislation, press publications, and Capitol Hill publications for a variety of issues including technology, ecommerce, postal, and defense. Researching legislation and client-specific issues, communicating with clients on key developments, attending congressional hearings, and preparing materials for client meetings. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Sr Government Affairs Specialist, lawyers, lobbyists, clients, and other staff ESSENTIAL DUTIES * The daily make up of tasks changes depending on department needs * Monitor legislation, press, and Capitol Hill publications for a variety of topics and issues of interest to our clients * Research legislation and client-specific issues * Attend congressional hearings * Prepare materials for client meetings * Manage the coordination of client projects * Interact with staffers on Capitol Hill to arrange client meetings and obtain legislative information * Plan and coordinate client and Hill-related events * Maintain client databases of lobbying information and client files ADDITIONAL DUTIES * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with legal and administrative personnel throughout the firm * Recognize the importance of effective client service and present the firm in a positive light * Successfully set priorities, perform tasks in an orderly fashion, and meet deadlines * Demonstrate good written and oral communications skills and communicate effectively * Operate well without specific direction and close supervision, given general guidelines for the position * Keep up with changing priorities, and is willing and able to take on new tasks and responsibilities * Remain calm and focused in pressure situations EXPERIENCE SKILLS REQUIRED * 12 months Capitol Hill or trade association work experience * Bachelor's degree * Strong communication and organizational skills * Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet, and electronic information services BENEFITS We offer a dynamic work environment and excellent benefits.
