The position is within the Directorate of Nursing Services, Hematology-Oncology Inpatient Unit, 20-bed capacity with a Radioiodine Therapy room. Reports to the identified Registered Nurse responsible for co-signing documentation. Once the candidate has been oriented to the daily operations of the unit and have met all the competency skills, he/she will serve as Preceptor as appropriate to incoming nurses, civilian, or military. Scheduling is a rotation between day and night shift; including PMs, nights, weekends , holidays, or on an "on call' basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. Participates in meetings to evaluate clinic policies/processes and recommend improvement solutions. Participates as a key member in the hematology/oncology educational programs, assisting in the orientation, mentoring, and oversight of assigned professional and paraprofessional staffs. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job, such as: Providing highly specialized nursing care to Hematology/Oncology patients. Providing specialized services to patients with complex systems and/or disease processes; operating and monitoring highly complex technical and specialized equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Knowledge of chemotherapeutic agents, their actions, side effects, counter-indicated use and basic understanding of stem cell transplant is preferred. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical/vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or District of Columbia OR must have applied for a license to practice.
