JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner Position is located in the Intramural Clinical Management and Operations Branch (ICMOB), Division of Clinical Research (DCR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH).

    Basic Qualifications:

    Education - Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

    Licensure - Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

    Additional Qualifications:

    GS-13: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing leadership in comprehensive nursing, preventative, and therapeutic health care service to patients and family members as a primary health resource; securing health and developmental histories from patients or parents; recording findings and makes critical evaluations; performing or request special screening and developmental test and laboratory test and interprets the results; making decisions concerning medical care needs of patients and physicians as well as decisions regarding nursing care needs.

     Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection/ placement.

    Pre-employment physical is required.
