JOB SUMMARY:

This position is part of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. As a PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST, this position is located in:

The mission of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is to provide force protection, security, and law enforcement to safeguard personnel, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources for the Pentagon Reservation and designated DOD facilities within the National Capital Capital Region (NCR), PFPA addresses the full spectrum of threats by utilizing a balanced approach of comprehensive protective intelligence and counterintelligence analysis to include forensic and biometric-enabled information, to determine the appropriate protective posture for personnel and facilities; prevention, preparedness, detection; all hazards response; DoD emergency management support the lead response management agency during an emergency or crisis, and provide comprehensive threat assessments, security, and protection services for Office of the Secretary of Defense personnel and other persons. The PFPA is the DoD focal point for collaborating and coordinating with other DoD Components, other Executive departments and agencies, and State and local authorities on matters involving force protection, security, and law enforcement activities that impact the Pentagon Facilities.

    A. Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

    B: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to: 1) apply basic knowledge of principles and concepts related to physical security assignments; 2) assist experienced security specialist in conducting surveys and inspections of physical areas;and 3) assist in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes.
    OR
    C. A combination of specialized experience as described in letter B above and education as described in letter A above that totals 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

    You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

    A.
    Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
    OR
    B. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:: 1) apply knowledge of principles and concepts related to physical security assignments; 2) inspect facilities to ensure security programs are operated effectively; and 3) evaluate security systems and reporting findings to recommend changes
    OR
    C. I have a combination of specialized experience as described in letter B above and education as described in letter A above that totals 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

    You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

    I have one year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in: 1) applying a wide range of security concepts, principles to resolve physical security issues; 2) Evaluating critical/sensitive areas for appropriate safeguards and implement policies to ensure effective security practices; and 3) applying knowledge of physical security systems (such as vehicle barriers, vehicular entry/exit booths, closed circuit television. (Education cannot be substituted at this level)

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
