Hughes is seeking a Designer II to join the Hardware Engineering team in Germantown, MD.

  • Creating, designing, and developing detailed electro-mechanical models, drawings, artwork and/or documentation for Mechanical Product Designs of ground based Satellite Communications equipment sold globally.
  • Developing custom mechanical board assemblies, enclosures, rack cabinets, and systems for these products.
  • Participating in the Industrial Design, concept and detailed product design iterations, prototype and production fabrication drawings, and final factory hand off.
  • Working with multi-disciplined engineering teams including Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Digital EE's, RF EE's, suppliers, and the business office to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.

  • Basic Requirement:
  • AA / Technical Degree in a Mechanical Design field or 2+ years of equivalent work experience with various 3D modeling/engineering software's.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, etc).
  • 2+ years of experience in 3D CAD Software, Creo 2.0, Windchill 10.0.
  • 2+ years of experience in part/assembly modeling and drawings per ASME Y14.5M.
  • 2+ years of experience with sheet metal part design, die casting part design, plastic injection molded part design, and manufacturing techniques of each along with low and high volume design approaches.
  • 2+ years of experience with cabling design, wiring diagram layouts, label artwork layouts, and designs. 
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC design considerations and shielding techniques for Electronic Circuit Boards.
  • Knowledge of thermal management solutions & best practices for electronic packaging.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Notice (ECN) review/approval.
  • Well spoken, self-starter, with high energy and motivation to succeed.
