Deputy Director of Technology - Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS)

The Georgetown University Office of Student Financial Services is looking for a talented Deputy Director of Technology to join our team.

The Deputy Director of Technology is an individual who:

The Deputy Director has the opportunity to:

  • Learn from and collaborate with a number of key stakeholders throughout the university in departments such as Admissions, Billing and Payment Services, Registration, Student Affairs, Housing, Dining Services, Health Insurance and other relevant offices.

With general direction from the Director of Counseling, Technology, and Student Employment, the Deputy Director has responsibilities such as:

  • Manages the OSFS technology functional areas
  • Provides systems and technology services for Main Campus, Law and Medical School financial aid offices and students to ensure the most efficient and customer service-oriented delivery of student financial services in compliance with Federal and other University regulations and policies.
  • Serves the 3 Financial Aid Offices in supporting the Banner Student Information System (Banner) and the Georgetown Management Systems (GMS) administrating over $480 million in student financial aid each year.
  • Supervises, trains, and mentors one Senior Systems Manager.
  • Supports
    • Systems applications for the staff to administer counseling and application processing services for 14,500 potential undergraduate and graduate applicants; 1,000 at the Medical School; and 2,500 at the Law Center each aid each year.
    • Daily operations of the University Student Loan Services (USLS) office, a division of OSFS, which administers more than $260 million annually in federal and private student and parent loan programs for 7,900 students (5,400 Main Campus students and 2,500 Medical and Law Center students).
    • Student employment program operations that deliver earnings to GU students that total more than $11 million dollars per year to 4,000 students, more than 750 supervisors in 400 departments on all 3 GU campuses; and more than 50 off-campus employment sites; and processes more than 15,000 hourly student employment transactions in the Georgetown Management System (GMS/HCM) every year. 
  • Upgrades the Banner system with numerous patches and releases and serves as part of the technology effort to upgrade our student system to Banner 9.
  • Directly supervises 1 FTE and up to 5 student assistants.
  • As part of the management team of the OSFS, advises the Associate Dean and senior staff on matters of technology, and has regular internal contact with the entire staff of the Office of Student Financial Services, the Law Center Financial Aid Office and the Medical School Office of Student Financial Planning.  
  • External to the financial aid offices, serves as a liaison with the GMS core technology team, GU University Information Services (UIS), and external contacts such as US Department of Education, The College Board, Heartland ECSI, Ellucian, and various software and hardware vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive technology experience preferably in a financial aid office
  • Experience working in a 4-year private college or university

Preferred qualifications

  • Any combination of experience with Banner Student Information System, Workday or other human resources, payroll, and financial systems, Word, Excel, Access, SQL, and Cognos report writing software
  • Experience and knowledge of other reporting analysis techniques, to include use of pivot tables to analyze data
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Commitment to continuous quality and customer service improvement
