Digital Publishing and Rights Manager - Georgetown University Press

The Digital Publishing and Rights Manager (DPRM) has responsibility for all operational, strategic, and financial aspects of its digital publishing and rights department with a staff of two.  Reporting to the Director of Georgetown University Press, the DPRM has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the preparation and distribution of print and e-book metadata.
  • Oversees requests for permission to use material from the press's intellectual property.
  • Oversees application for copyright and applies for trademark registrations.
  • Negotiates rights for co-publications and translations.
  • Negotiates subsidiary rights with third parties.
  • Negotiates vendor contracts, makes press policy recommendations, and posts content with library-focused content aggregators.
  • Handles licensing agreements and digital rights management.
  • Oversees the contracts administration process.
  • Creates and implements policies for permissions.
  • Represents the press at international book fairs
  • Consults on the preparation of digital files to all partners and content aggregators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree - Master's preferred
  • 3 years of experience in scholarly or trade publishing, print and digital rights management, and permissions management
  • Exceptional communications skills and strong ability to interact with foreign publishers, authors, attorneys, and vendors, as well as the editorial, marketing and sales, and other departments of the press.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, digital publishing, databases, and web-based applications
