The George Mason University Facilities Management Department is currently seeking candidates for an Electrical Supervisor position working on the Fairfax, Va., campus. Responsibilities: * Responsible for scheduling, directing, and performing systematic preventive maintenance on university electrical systems to prevent breakdown, improve efficiency, conserve energy, and prolong equipment life; * Supervise and direct the electrical shop and electrical shop employees in all aspects of interior and exterior electrical installations, repair and maintenance; * Coordinate the work of the electrical shop with other buildings and mechanical trades and the facility occupants; * Coordinate with all parties involved with electrical outages and location of underground utilities; * Respond to emergency situations involving a broad range of electrical/mechanical problems and other emergencies, such as snow removal; and * Provide advice for Mason Facilities Department on preference of electrical work in new and renovation construction projects.
Required Qualifications: * Experience in supervising at least five skilled journeyman electricians; and * Extensive supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to work journeyman electricians, including performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
Preferred Qualifications: * Journeyman Electrician License is highly preferred, though an equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute; * Substantial experience and responsibility in the operation, maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial electrical equipment and systems; * Knowledge of principles of electricity, codes, standards, installation practices, etc.; * Ability to explain electrical concepts and skills for others to easily follow and understand; * Working skills in the use of electrical tools; * Thorough knowledge of all types of required maintenance and repair normally found on a university campus, or large commercial or office complex; * Ability to keep thorough record of work orders regarding priority, time spent and materials used; * Has innovative ideas and initiative to implement sound solutions to organization and facility problems; and * Master Electrician License preferred.
