Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from High School or possession of a High School equivalency certificate. A minimum of eight (8) years elevator industry experience in maintenance, construction, service, engineering or modernization or related field with a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.  Qualified in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of escalator and/or elevator equipment is preferred. Training in one of the following maintenance disciplines:  mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, or related field.

License/Certification:

Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia motor vehicle operator's license issued from the jurisdiction of residence or the ability to acquire one on a timely basis.

Possession of a current certification by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) with and ANSI/ASME QEI-I qualification test for the ability to acquire within twelve (12) months of hire or an equivalent organization as required above.

Medical Group:

Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this job. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodations.

Job Summary/Duties:

This is highly skilled technical maintenance supervision work of a complex nature. The incumbent in this class is responsible for supervision of escalator/elevator mechanics and for effective and efficient testing, diagnosis, problem identification and problem resolution relating to escalators and elevators in support of the entire Metrorail system. The incumbent must have comprehensive working knowledge of escalator and elevator systems and maintenance procedures.  The incumbent’s performance will be measured on the effective and efficient supervision of personnel and maintenance procedures of WMATA's escalators and elevators.  The incumbent also effectively monitors technical adherence to codes, maintenance personnel task performance and contractor maintenance performance.

Supervises subordinates to include recommending applicant selection, disciplinary actions, effective resolution of grievances, assigning duties, directing work, conducting performance evaluations, approving leave requests and timesheets, and ensuring effective and appropriate subordinate training is provided.

Supervises personnel, inspect maintenance and repair work, in progress and at completion, for workmanship, completeness, and compliance with drawing specifications, engineering orders, escalator/elevator codes, layouts and standard maintenance procedures.  Prepares accurate and concise oral/written reports on the findings, deficiencies and recommendations for corrective actions.

Directs and works with Contractor personnel to assure adherence to acceptable maintenance procedures.

Supervises scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of escalator and elevator equipment.

Responds in a timely manner to elevator and/or escalator emergencies, accidents, critical equipment outages and electrical equipment shock reported during other than normal working hours.  Conducts investigations as necessary and provide timely written reports of the investigations.

Participates in effective training programs as required.
