JOB SUMMARY:

THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1599c(a) of Title 10, United States Code (U.S.C.), provides that the Secretary of Defense may designate any category of health care occupations within the Department of Defense as shortage category positions or critical need occupations and utilize the authorities in sections 3304, 5333 and 5753 of title 5 U.S.C., to recruit and appoint qualified persons directly to positions so designated.

The selectee for this position will serve as the Chief of the Health Service Delivery Support Branch of the Defense Health Agency (DHA).

  • Requirements:

    Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

    Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

    Selectee(s) must meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.

    Positions that are supervisory/ managerial require that first time supervisors/managers complete a one-year trial/probationary period if not previously completed in a competitive or other excepted service position.

    Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. The selectee will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

    Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
    • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association; or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; OR
    • Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination; AND
    • Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least five (5) years of graduate training in the specialty area of this position being filled or equivalent experience and training as a professional doctor of medicine providing administrative or programmatic leadership on matters pertaining to the operational management of health care programs.
