This is a Pathways Student Intern Program position and is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school.     PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:
    Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the internship program.
    Students who successfully complete the internship program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment or a term (1 to 4 years in duration) appointment without further competition.

    To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:
    - Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
    - Complete degree requirements within one year of your internship appointment date.
    - Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
    - Must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the entire internship appointment
    - Perform their job successfully.
    - Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance.
    - In addition, students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement.
    - Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.

    For this position you must meet the Pathways Internship Eligibility, Minimum Qualification and Selective Placement Factor requirements.

    Pathways Internship Eligibility
    You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be currently enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, on at least a half-time schedule as a student at an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs (e.g., graduate school, law school); or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a degree or certificate. Certificate programs must be one academic year in duration.

    Minimum Qualifications
    For the GS-04 grade level (starting salary $31,283) you must possess the following:
    Completed two full academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. (Please submit transcripts)
    --OR--

    One year of general experience conducting a variety of clerical tasks, including answering telephones, typing documents, and filing records that provided me with the particular competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of this position.
    --OR--

    A combination of education and general experience as described above which when combined are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. Only education beyond high school may be used in this calculation.


    For the GS-05 grade level (starting salary $34,999) you must possess one of the following:
    Completed four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. (Please submit transcripts).
    --OR--

    One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 level in the Federal service performing the following duties: Carrying out a variety of office work to include compiling and updating data, opening and distributing mail; and providing customer service support by answering telephone calls and receiving visitors to the reception area and immediate offices.
    --OR--

    A combination of education and specialized experience as described above which when combined are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

    Selective Placement Factor (SPF)
    In addition, applicants must also meet the SPF that requires possession of typing proficiency that includes at least 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. We may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants if selected for an interview.

    National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.     One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. The high school curriculum must be approved by a State or local governing body. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet Federal qualification requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States.
