Please note: The salary range above covers the Mental Health Therapist II position for a candidate who is hired without the appropriate Virginia clinical licensure. The salary range for Mental Health Therapist II (Licensed) is $60,964.80 - $93,142.40.

Is your passion providing mental health therapy and case management to older adults? Do you enjoy traveling throughout the community and partnering with stakeholders to achieve maximum outcomes for the 65 and older population? Arlington County's Regional Older Adult Facilities Mental Health Support Team (RAFT) has an opportunity for an experienced and passionate mental health clinician. This is a regional program managed by Arlington County and the employee is part of a multidisciplinary team which travels to Northern Virginia nursing homes and assisted living facilities to provide intensive case management and mental health therapy to clients. RAFT fulfills a vital community need for individuals who require long term level care and are ready to be discharged from a state psychiatric hospital or are at risk of admission to a state psychiatric hospital. The RAFT team includes a geriatric psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse, three mental health clinicians, and a program director.

Duties include:
  • Performing multidisciplinary evaluations;
  • Developing comprehensive plans of care;
  • Providing mental health therapy;
  • Linking case management services with resources including with physicians and other agencies;
  • Regular medication monitoring and evaluation;
  • Assessing client service needs; and
  • Providing 24 hour on-call consultation and mental health training to staff working in long term care residences.
The successful candidate will possess advanced therapy and intensive case management skills to make independent decisions as well as a strong desire to work with older adults. The employee will travel to long term care residences across the Northern Virginia region.
 Selection Criteria: Minimum: Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Clinical Social Work, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic and treatment services prior to graduation, plus two years of full-time post-Master's degree experience providing case management and other mental health services in a clinical setting.

Substitution: Directly-related higher level clinical degrees may substitute for the Master's degree education requirement and one year of experience providing services. In the case of this substitution, qualifying full-time work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Virginia licensure or license eligibility which allows reimbursement from Medicare (i.e. LCSW, PhD., clinical nurse specialist);
  • Providing case management and mental health services to older adults; and/or
  • Experience working with older adults in a long term care setting.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant's driving record
 Additional Information: Work Hours: 40 hrs per week, Monday through Friday. Some nights and weekends. On-call as needed.

RAFT is grant-funded and administered by Arlington County. This is a full-time, state grant-funded position and is contingent upon funding availability.
