Under close supervision of the Protective Coating Supervisor and/or Industrial Painter III, participates in a variety of industrial coating work for the execution of the Protective Coating Maintenance Program for Authority facilities.  Provides general maintenance support as necessary.

Responsibilities:

Participates in a variety of industrial coating work applied to furniture; fixtures; equipment; hydrants; treatment, pumping, storage and maintenance facilities; and equipment in vaults by:

  • Preparing industrial and other surfaces for protective coating through the use of abrasives, grinding, sanding, scraping and solvents.
  • Mixing, matching and applying protective coatings to a variety of surfaces including wood, steel and concrete structures utilizing brushes, rollers and conventional and airless spray methods.
  • Maintaining safety measures on all phases of protective coating activities.
  • Erecting and inspecting scaffolding, power hanging stages and ladders for compliance with safety regulations.
  • Periodically driving Authority vehicles to and from work sites.
  • Operating a variety of tools and equipment to include: sand blasters, needle guns, grinders, wire brushes, scrapers, spray pumps, rollers, power tools and other equipment.
  • Utilizing safety equipment to include: respirators, helmets and goggles.
  • Entering time and materials in SAP.

Provides general maintenance support as necessary by:

  • Performing simple carpentry, plumbing and electrical maintenance.
  • Performing concrete and masonry structural repair.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Minimum of one year residential, commercial or industrial painting experience.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used by industrial painters preferred.
  • Must be able to perform simple carpentry, plumbing and electrical maintenance.
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to use an Enterprise Management System (EMS).
  • Must pass a controlled substance (drug) test for employment.  This position is also subject to random testing after hire.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must be prepared to report to work on a regular basis at any of the Fairfax Water work sites requiring painting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform manual physical work, including lifting 100 pound bags of sand.
  • Perform work in enclosed areas such as vaults and to climb and work from ladders and scaffolds.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
