JOB SUMMARY:

JOB DESCRIPTION: Visual Information Specialists design, produce, and finish visual presentation products such as geospatial information products, publications, brochures, and web pages. They apply design principles to create or enhance visual materials and to visually communicate concepts or ideas. They may use desktop publishing, illustration, image editing, graphic design, and/or digital video software to generate hardcopy, softcopy, and web products.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.

    Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.


    MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Online resumes must demonstrate qualification by providing specific examples and associated results, in response to the announcement's mandatory criteria specified in this vacancy announcement:

    1. Demonstrated experience applying advanced theories and principles of graphic design.
    2. Demonstrated strong proficiency with layout, visual hierarchy, typography, color, and composition.
    3. Demonstrated experience creating effective visualizations of numbers and statistical data.
    4. Demonstrated experience and expertise using the Adobe Creative Suite (CS) including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat for the production of print and digital products.
    5. Demonstrated experience applying creative and analytic thinking to implement design ideas that communicate effectively through the use of design mediums such as infographics (information graphics). Experience with visual storytelling based on complex data from various sources.
    6. Demonstrated experience reviewing and providing comprehensive feedback of graphic compositions.
    7. Demonstrated experience directing resources against specific requirements, within a schedule, and with a defined quality standard.
    8. Demonstrated experience working with customers or clients using excellent interpersonal skills.
    9. Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects with short deadlines. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Two-year degree in Graphic Arts, Graphic Design, Photography, Visual Communication, or a related field. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education in any area listed in option A and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of college work is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals to 2 years.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired:

    1. Demonstrated experience with cartography, especially thematic cartography, GIS, and creating effective visualizations of spatial data with related geospatial software, such as Avenza MAPublisher and ESRI ArcGIS.
    2. Experience as a graphic designer or related work role for the Federal Government, specifically the Military and Intelligence Communities.
    3. Possess a strong desire to work in public service in support of national security, defense, disaster response, and public safety.
    4. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and satisfy multiple requirements on time, in an environment where requirements frequently change.
    5. Demonstrated experience briefing at the management level.
