Managing Director, Georgetown University Security and Software Engineering Research

The mission of Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S2ERC), a National Science Foundation funded Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (NSF I/UCRC), is to conduct a program of applied and basic research on software security, system security and software technology problems of interest to its members. S2ERC researchers are faculty and students from computer science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, management, law, government, and systems engineering programs at 14 universities. Researchers work with non-academic practitioners at affiliate industry and government sites, who provide guidance, feedback, and funding. The S2ERC has three NSF primary sites (Georgetown University, Ball State University, and Virginia Tech).

The Managing Director for the Georgetown University S2ER has responsibility areas such as center operations and management, relations with the Industry Advisory Board (IAB), marketing and communications; collection, collation, and analysis of data for NSF reporting; and management of the annual S2ERC Showcase. Reporting the S2ERC Georgetown Center Director and Principal Investigator, the Director has duties that include but are not limited to:

Center Management

  • Prepares and administers budget.
  • Recruits researchers (professors, students, staff, and postdocs), as well as senior faculty to propose projects for execution in the S2ERC.
  • Interacts with the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research for hiring.
  • Manages, reviews, and, as necessary, terminates researchers.

Center Operations

  • Acquires affiliates (industrial organizations paying membership fees) and maintains affiliate memberships.
  • Develops and manages all external funders.
  • Administers billing and collections.
  • Collaborates with Georgetown faculty with interest in S2ERC.
  • Manages day-to-day operations.

Marketing and Communications

  • Manages external communications and public relations
  • Manages the website and trade shows.
  • Maintains considerable interaction other University departments, in particular with Research Services in particular for grant proposal preparation and budget formulation.

Requirements

  • MBA - preference for a Bachelor's degree in technology (including computer science, electrical engineering, information systems)
  • 15 years of industry experience - at least 5 at the director level or Principal Investigator
  • Experience in academic, industrial, or government research and development settings  
  • Experience and expertise in technology, business, legal, and policy domains
  • Preference for existing relationships with key external stakeholders

This position is a part-time, term position for 10 hours per week through September 28, 2018.
