Specialized experience include: Writing correspondence to report hazardous materials issues; soliciting and consolidating input from multiple individuals (e.g., regulatory agencies, foreign administrations) that are interested in and/or affected by pollution prevention; coordinating with representatives of other units to address problems and/or implement changes that effect internal and external parties; and briefing management officials on compliance issues and other areas of concern.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

If selection is made below the full performance level, the incumbent may be promoted up to the target grade without further competition, if all legal and regulatory requirements are met and when recommended by the supervisor. - Knowledge of the applicable Environmental and Maritime Transportation Regulations.
- Knowledge of a variety of classes of ships and infrastructures, including general operational characteristics, speed, maneuverability, cargo capacity and design features.
- Knowledge of weather and environmental conditions impact on vessel, railroad, facilities, mobile transport operations and marine wildlife.
- Skill in the operation of telephone systems, land-line circuits, computers and other keyboard equipment in collecting, evaluating, updating, and disseminating information.
- Ability to communicate clearly and authoritatively and project information professionally and competently.
