The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) mission is to provide research, development, test and evaluation, analysis, systems engineering, integration and certification of complex naval warfare systems. As a premier naval scientific and engineering institution, Dahlgren technology is critical to new design concepts for current ships and for systems integration and interoperability for the U.S. Navy.

Scientific and Professional (ST) positions provide a continuity of technical expertise and oversight that is needed to ensure long term stewardship of an organization's technical capabilities. The Distinguished Scientist/Engineer for Combat Control position requires national-level expertise in scientific and technical knowledge of sensors, signal processing, weapon systems design and supporting technologies.

NSWCDD is seeking a candidate with the following skills and experience:

1. A nationally recognized, world-class scientist or engineer with expert knowledge of combat control systems including sensors, signal processing, weapon system design and supporting technologies with specialty in control system theory and deterministic control for large scale integrated systems.

2. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of control theory and development of techniques to analyze the human cognitive processing implications in the control of warfighting capability.

3. Combined strong scientific or engineering background which demonstrates the ability to perform and lead research, and a comprehensive knowledge and working relationship in combat control within the applicable DoD, academic and industrial communities.

4. Incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to formulate and guide a technology based, systematic attack on large, complex problems containing technical and operational issues.

5. The incumbent must be particularly able to successfully integrate the technologies of many and varied disciplines, groups and subsystems at the overall system and system-of-systems level.


Position Requirements

  • A security clearance is a requirement of this position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.
  • Selectee may be required to complete a probationary/ trial period.
  • Selectee will be required to complete and submit an Executive Personnel Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-278, prior to entering the position and annually thereafter.
