Division Counsel, Office of Superintendent
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 10th largest school district, located in suburban area just outside the nation’s capital, is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Paralegal, for Division Counsel in the Office of Superintendent. This individual provides technical, legal, and operational support to the division counsel and staff; manages litigation hold and discovery response systems and develops additional methods to streamline the discovery process; conducts legal research and prepares case materials and basic legal documents; collects and analyzes facts and data in support of the division counsel; relieves division counsel and assistant division counsel of routine legally-related tasks; and serves as system administrator for case management software systems.
The ideal candidate will need the following qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a associate's degree or paralegal course of study plus two years of progressively more responsible paralegal, law librarian, legal assistant, legal technology, or similar legal support experience. Must possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills; some knowledge of or interest in legal issues affecting education; good judgment and initiative; ability to prioritize; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; and investigative and interviewing skills. Can demonstrate proficiency in business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; ability to operate a computer and use appropriate software applications and peripheral office equipment; and knowledge of legal databases and other legal resources, including litigation support software, and case management software. Knowledge of federal and state court rules, the functions of the school division, and its operating procedures preferable but not required.
