Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
While reporting to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director for Information Technology (ADIT) is responsible for a thorough understanding of the mission, objectives and goals of the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) at the University of Maryland while developing and maintaining comprehensive IT initiatives that are aligned with the Department’s customer service and innovation goals. As a member of the senior staff management team, the ADIT serves as the department’s principal source for information technology planning and implementation. The ADIT works closely with the Executive Director and other senior staff team members to provide direction and leadership regarding the integration of IT into all departmental operations; and to provide a clear eyed vision as it relates to every departmental function. As a member of the DOTS senior staff team, the ADIT will share the overall functional responsibility and management of every aspect of the department through a deliberative senior staff collaboration where participation is required. The ADIT provides vision and leadership in all aspects of the department’s technical infrastructure, user support functions, computing training, enterprise application services, as well as data security and data integrity measures. The ADIT will work collaboratively across the department and division to provide leadership and technical expertise necessary to identify, understand, and communicate how existing and emerging technologies will support DOTS services and programs, as well as provide cost-effective administrative systems. The ADIT is responsible for Department-wide information technology projects, governance and fiscal management relative to IT activities and core infrastructure, and supports departmental compliance as well as develops and enforces policies regarding information technology security. The ADIT provides direction and leadership to all IT staff to improve efficiency and effectiveness and to deliver the highest quality services to the DOTS team. Bachelors Degree is required- Masters Degree preferred; degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
Minimum seven years experience with increasing responsibility in the operation and management of various aspects of Information Technology. Preferably a member of a Senior Leadership Team. Knowledge of networking technologies and development capabilities. Excellent verbal and written abilities.
- Working knowledge and understanding of VMware.
- Functional understanding of GIS development, SQL and Access database development.
- Ability to work well with faculty, staff and students of varying levels of technical understanding.
- Excellent time management and ability to define departmental priorities.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the information systems technology subjects and extensive knowledge of hardware and software, with the ability to be aware of new technologies.
- Ability to prioritize and organize and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous higher education administration experience.
