Engineer III – Watershed Management Capital Projects Division

Salary Range: $63,439 - $105,241

The mission of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is to enhance the quality of life in our community by protecting and improving Montgomery County’s air, water and land in a sustainable way while fostering smart growth, a thriving economy and healthy communities.  DEP is seeking an experienced Engineer to provide construction engineering support.  The position resides in the Watershed Restoration and Stormwater Management Construction Section of the Division of Watershed Management Capital Projects.

The position provides construction engineering services support in ongoing efforts to comply with Montgomery County's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Discharge Permit (MS4) as it relates to the planning and implementation of stormwater facility and stream restoration funded through the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) in the Department of Environmental Protection. Duties include: engineering and construction contract management and review of capital project construction cost, schedule and quality control. The position is responsible for specific projects including new and retrofits stormwater management ponds, Environmental Site Design (ESD) and Low Impact Development (LID) projects, stormwater facilities, stream restoration and other environmental restoration.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a collaborative environment within a large organization with multiple priorities, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

This position requires possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a County vehicle to attend meetings, visit sites for field investigations, conducting surveys, and/or observing or inspecting construction, and performing other work at locations outside the office.

Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required.


Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the design, construction, and contract management of stormwater management, ESD, and stream restoration projects.

Education:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Civil or Water Resources Engineering, or related field.  Registration as a Professional Engineer may substitute for the degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, provided such combination includes at least sixty (60) accredited semester hours (or an equivalent amount of accredited professional training) in engineering or related courses appropriate to the assigned position.

License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence or the ability to perform work at locations outside of the office
