JOB SUMMARY:

"These positions are being filled under the Acquisition Expedited Hiring Authority. The Secretary of the Air Force has delegated authority to appoint certain Civilians to positions designated pursuant to the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improve Act (DAWIA); positions are located Air Force-Wide. Positions are filled as permanent with a full-time work schedule. Pay may vary by geographic location."

The PALACE Acquire Program offers you a permanent position upon completion of your formal training plan. As a Palace Acquire Intern you will experience both personal and professional growth while dealing effectively and ethically with change, complexity, and problem solving. The program offers a 3-year formal training plan with yearly salary increases. Promotions and salary increases are based upon your successful performance and supervisory approval. This is your opportunity to begin a successful civilian career with the United States Air Force.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Mobility Agreement -This position requires the employee to sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment in accordance with Chapter 17 of AFMAN 36-606, Civilian Field Management and Development. Upon both application and completion of this internship; applicants must be willing to accept assignments anywhere in the U.S. and/or in overseas locations. 

2. Successful completion of all training and regulatory requirements as identified in the applicable training plan.

3. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance -Top Secrect/SCI Eligible.

4. May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.

5 This position requires the incumbent employee to drive a motor vehicle. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

6. Lautenberg Amendment: This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (18 U.S.C. Section 992 (g) ((9)).

To qualify, you must have one year experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level performing the following: Basic knowledge of the appropriate provisions of the U.S. Statutes; UCMJ; and DoD, AF, and AFOSI instructions, directives, and other implementing policies governing the conduct of criminal investigative activities. Working knowledge of area of work, location of records, rulings applicable to cases investigated, and investigative techniques and methods. Skilled in judicious use of firearms.

Education: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement or a combination of 1 year equivalent to at least a GS-05.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills which provides valuable training and experience.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Drug Testing:  Position is designated as a testing designated position under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.  Applicants selected for this position are required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test prior to appointment/conversion.  In addition, this position is a drug testing designated position subject to random testing for illegal drug use through the tenure of this internship. 

Firearms: The duties of this position require the incumbent to carry a firearm.  Applicants must meet initial and continuing AFOSI qualifications in the use of firearms.

Medical, Health and Fitness Requirements, to include but not limited to the following:

Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically able to perform duties without being a hazard to themselves or others

May be required to take a series of vaccinations and immunizations

Moderate to arduous physical exertion involving standing, walking, running

Exposure to inclement weather or other environmental hazards

Must possess emotional and mental stability

Polygraph Examination:  Applicants are subject to counterintelligence scope polygraph examinations as determined by the command.  Failure to successfully complete a polygraph examination could result in disciplinary action as determined by the command.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Top Secret security clearance.  Favorable completion of a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) is required prior to an offer of employment.

Specialized Training:  This position requires successful completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's (FLETC) Criminal Investigators Training Program (CITP) or equivalent and the United States Air Force Special Investigations Academy (USAFSIA), or equivalent.

Work Environment:  Employeesmay be assigned anywhere in the U.S. or overseas.  In addition, employeesmay be required to work in areas of unrest or in war zones.

Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP):  LEAP is approved for this position to compensate employees for unscheduled duty in excess of a 40-hour workweek.

Law Enforcement Retirement:  This position is a primary law enforcement officer (LEO) position.  IAW DoDI 1400.25 Volume 336, "The maximum entry age (MEA) for covered primary law enforcement officer positions is 37.  Persons not appointed by the last day of the month in which they become age 37 shall not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions."  The Agency may choose to waive MEA requirements based on compelling hardship, e.g., a shortage of qualified candidates; or may choose to waive MEA requirements for otherwise qualified applicants with veterans' preference. 

Locality Pay:  This position is authorized locality pay based on the location of permanent assignment.

This position will be filled on a full-time permanent basis. Upon competing any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.

This position requires completion of a two year probationary period.
