RESPONSIBILITIES
will be responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks involving industrial electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic equipment; installation, maintenance (preventive, predictive and corrective), operation, modification, inspection, repair and troubleshooting of process  equipment power  and control, emergency generators, power distribution, motor control, lighting, associated systems and other related tasks as assigned. Works independently or as a team member under the general direction of the Lead Electrical Systems Technician or Electrical Systems Manager to carry out complex installations, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs, and plan procedures to keep all Plant Delivery Systems in working condition. The Electrical Systems Technician works independently on fire alarm systems, uninterruptible power supplies and power storage batteries. Works with and in support of various divisions, sections, trades, and technical staff in operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment. Incumbent is exposed to a wastewater biological and chemical hazardous environment and the hazards of rotating equipment. May be exposed to medium voltage on occasion.  

The candidate must have extensive knowledge of all phases of industrial power and distribution equipment, motor controls, transformers; ability to work independently and safely to effect repairs as needed; good knowledge of standard industrial maintenance practices and safety procedures and applicable codes, to include lock-out/tag-out procedures and the National Electric Code; working knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical devices; ability to use specialized tools, equipment, instruments, and wiring schematics to solve problems. The ability to plan work, estimate costs and labor, and prepares orders for material. Must be able to interpret and work from manufacturer manuals, blueprints, shop drawings, schematics and one-line diagrams. Sufficient color perception to distinguish colors of electrical wiring; ability to work safely with medium voltage and rotating machinery and the ability to work safely at heights and in confined spaces is necessary. The Electrical Systems Technician uses computer applications and data management software to prepare and submit written reports.  

REQUIREMENTS
▪ Completion of high school or a GED program and a minimum 8 years electrical experience in an industrial environment. A journeyman license if preferred. College courses in a technical discipline or vocational school training is desired or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
▪ Must meet all confined space requirements.
▪ Required to be on call when scheduled; must be able to work overtime as required to meet needs of plant and pump stations; will be required to participate in plant generator operations.
▪ Possession of a vehicle operator’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
▪ Must be able to meet physical requirements of position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting and/or carrying up to 75 pounds.
