Pathways Recent Graduate- IT Specialist (Systems Administration), ZP-2210-II (GS 7-10 Equivalent)
This is a Recent Graduate position in the Pathways Program within the National Institute of Standards and Technology, pInformation Technology Laboratory, Information Access Division. The individual selected will support the Multimodal Information Group with IT system and services. The program duration is one year. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency's discretion, the appointee may be converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service.

To be eligible for the Recent Graduate Program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years;
b. Released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years, where the applicant is a veteran who, due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying for a recent graduate position during any portion of the two-year eligibility period following completion of his/her degree or certificate requirements, provided that not more than six years have transpired since the applicant completed the requirements for his/her degree or certificate.

Superior Academic Achievement: is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
1. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
a. 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum;
b. 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9.
3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed below. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies. Agencies considering eligibility based on any society not included in the following list must ensure that the honor society meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts to document that you have met the education requirement to include your graduation date. If you have graduated within the past 30 days and your transcripts have not yet been updated to include your graduation date, you must also include your graduation date, including both month and year, on your resume, or provide a letter from your college or university with your graduation date. Official transcripts will be required prior to a final offer of employment.
Special Instructions for Foreign Education: Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course by course listing along with your application. PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION: Upon completion of the 1-year career development program, Program participants may, at agency discretion, be non-competitively converted without a break in service, to a term, career or career conditional appointment. There is no guarantee for conversion.
Conversion KPP: ZP-III
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:
- Complete one continuous year of work experience acquired through a Recent Graduate Program
- Complete 40 hours of formal interactive training
- Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted
- Meet any agency-specific requirements specified in the Participant's Agreement, and
- Demonstrate successful job performance that results in a rating of record of at least Fully Successful and a recommendation for conversion by the first level supervisor.

All applicants will be rated on the following skills or competencies:
- Ability to troubleshoot/validate manual and automatic software installations and patches across a variety of operating systems and client/server technologies using package management tools.
- Skill in manual replacement of computer components and configuration of hardware.
- Knowledge of industry best practices in LDAP, DHCP, remote authorization, PIV authentication, system security, networking.
- Knowledge of processor types/speed, GPU and similar accelerators, storage, memory, clusters, servers, RAIDS, and centralized vs. distributed computing. Telemetry and hardware burn in testing.
- Knowledge of AWS, OpenStack, Block storage, Object storage, distributed storage and Database storage, Software Defined Networking, virtualization layers and deployment using software orchestration tools.
- Knowledge of networking technologies at the physical to protocol level including the ability to wire, label and map components between switches.
- Skill in integration of hardware resources (networking, server, ups) within a raised floor environment, inside rack mounts in a temperature controlled and monitored environment.
