HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR INSTRUCTOR

Northern Virginia Community College is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor for a new program! This new position will pay $50.00 per hour.
This part-time instructor position will teach non-credit students in safe operating procedures for various pieces of heavy construction equipment, providing hands-on instruction using actual equipment in a field situation; not simulations. Courses are compressed and designed to get students into employment quickly.
High school diploma or GED. or equivalent training/work experience, several years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
Must have valid Driver’s License.
A certificate or AAS degree in related field
Classroom experience and experience with instruction.
CRAFT INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION
A Craft Instructor is an individual who has successfully completed the Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP) conducted by an NCCER Master Trainer with current credentials, and who is authorized to teach the NCCER curriculum.
Craft Instructors must meet one of the following qualifications:
• Experience at a minimum journey or technician level in their area of expertise OR
• A minimum of three years’ experience as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program.
• A Master Trainer may also serve as an instructor if they meet the above criteria and submit Form 101 and the ICTP information sheet.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates must be knowledgeable, productive and efficient in all functions that are core competencies of heavy equipment operations (HEO). Must possess a thorough understanding of all equipment, settings, etc.
Must be able to operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, scrapers, side dump, backhoe and other pieces of equipment as needed.
Experienced in heavy equipment cleaning and maintenance standards and procedures
Possess knowledge of road construction standards, duties, and safety regulations.
Have the ability to teach and/or facilitate courses related to heavy equipment specific occupations
Possess knowledge of NCCER Heavy Equipment Operator modules or be NCCER certified in the area of HEO.
Must be able to effectively use appropriate technology and equipment.
