Elite global law firm seeks a Legal Project Manager to join their team in Washington, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, or Los Angeles!

The LPM will assist with advanced matter / client management while providing exemplary service.  It is expected that the LPM will have a fundamental understanding of the various finance, project, and legal process management disciplines and tools needed to apply to legal matters to ensure superior outcomes.  Intuitive flexibility, adaptation to the Firm’s methodologies, and the ability to interact with high-level individuals are required.


~Analyzing data from Firm financial systems and created Excel-based financial reports

~Developing a thorough understanding of profitability metrics and key performance indicators so as to be able to discuss them and how they relate with Firm attorneys and clients

~Recommending measures to improve client / matter profitability metrics to attorney teams

~Assisting legal teams with the definition and documentation of project scope, goals, and deliverables in support of both the Firm’s and its clients’ needs

~Comparing and conveying matter progress v. budget to Firm attorneys and clients

~Assisting with the development of large-scale budget and matter work plans, configuring Firm’s current matter management system in support of plans

~Estimating resources and staffing needed to achieve project goals; providing input regarding budget creation / matter work plan creation process

~Consulting on the use of pricing methods and alternative fee / value-based billing arrangements as needed

~Consulting on the use of alternative staffing approaches and automation as needed

~Defining project success criteria and disseminating information to involved parties throughout project lifecycle

~Communicating project expectations / status to Firm attorneys and clients in a timely and clear fashion

~Proactively managing project scope changes, identifying potential risks and devising contingency plans

~Managing multiple projects simultaneously, juggling priorities, deadlines, and essential project management duties for each project

~Creating and completing internal and external “after action reports” so as to facilitate the continuous improvement of legal project management program execution and overall legal work

~Building, developing, and growing business relationships vital to project success

~Traveling to client locations and other Firm offices as needed

~Partnering with the Firm’s Knowledge Management, Pricing, Client Intelligence and Business Development groups to execute strategy

~Conducting project management, process improvement, profitability, and value services training and the Firm and client levels

~Strategizing with Client Value Team regarding Firm initiatives to drive efficiency and profitability

~Negotiating rate and fee agreements with clients and preparing partners for similar discussions



~Undergraduate or MBA in Finance or related field, J.D., or relevant work experience; Paralegal certificate or Paralegal experience a plus


~At least five (5) years of finance or legal experience; willingness to obtain Project Management or Legal Project Management certification


~Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Visio, and Project

~Must be able to learn, understand, and apply finance skills and new technologies

~Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills

~Adept at conducting research

~Willingness to work remotely with the Global Team (some travel required)
