Psychiatric Social Worker
Responsible for evaluating behavioral health patients in the emergency department and behavioral health patients on the medical floors, evaluating patient motivation and need for referral to outside agencies for behavioral health and/or substance abuse. For those patients assigned, coordinates all systems and services required to execute the agreed upon disposition, including discharge, follow up or transfer for behavioral health patients in the ED or inpatient setting. To ensure quality, cost-effective care and efficient utilization of resources across the healthcare continuum. Education & Experience: Graduation from an accredited program in a mental health discipline (social work, psychology) or school of nursing. Previous experience in direct Behavioral Health patient care with a focus on behavioral health/addictions/substance abuse required. Substance abuse or addictions treatment experience preferred. Licensure & Certification: Current licensure in the State of Maryland in Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing required. Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of current State laws, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene regulations and Joint Commission Standards as they relate to behavioral health patient screening, evaluations, referrals and disposition. Knowledge of regulatory social/welfare programs including Medicare, Medicaid, social security and disability is required. Knowledge of regulations and legal parameters governing Maryland nursing homes required. Physical Demands: While performing this job, the individual will work in confined areas and/or the nursing units. The job requires sitting approximately 70% of the time with walking and standing approximately 30% of the time. The job requires visual and auditory acuity and ability to orally communicate. There is a potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood and body fluid substances and hazardous materials.
