Certified Pharmacy Technician
Assists the Staff Pharmacist in performing routine technical duties such as compounding, distribution, inventory control and storage of pharmaceutical items. Patients served include Neonate thru Adult-Geriatric. Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Six months hospital or general pharmacy experience preferred. A minimum of one year experience as a Pharmacy Technician is required. Ability to read, interpret and transcribe data required. Licensure & Certification: Current licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Maryland required. Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required. Skills & Abilities: Ability to perform mathematical calculations when preparing medication dosages required. Ability to prioritize work responsibilities required. Ability to read, interpret and transcribe data required. The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients, physicians, health system officials, other health system personnel and the general public is essential. Physical Demands: Works in a clean, well-lighted environment with fluctuating temperatures. Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. approximately 35% of the time; requires pushing and pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs. approximately 35% of the time. Requires walking and standing approximately 70% of the time; requires sitting approximately 30% of the time; occasional ascending/descending stairs. Requires frequent bending and reaching. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate equipment and dispense medications. Potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials requiring observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
