Electrical Engineer - West Point, VA Career Opportunity: This person must be able to design, specify, estimate the cost, and manage the safe installation of cable systems, motor control centers, unit substations and other more specialized electrical equipment used in paper mills. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the design and installation complies with the National Electric Code and other applicable codes. Power is bought from a utility company and generated in house by steam turbine generators. It is distributed around the mill at 13.2 KV and 2.4 KV. Knowledge of distribution switchgear and protective relaying is a requirement. In addition, the successful candidate must have an interest and some knowledge of short circuit, arc flash and load flow calculations and must be familiar with software programs such as Easy Power or ETAP. A requirement of the job is that he/she be able to maintain and update a model of the mill electrical system using Easy Power. Additional training will be provided as required to candidates who demonstrate they have some existing knowledge and an interest in this field of electrical engineering. The position requires demonstrated competence. How you will impact WestRock: Prepares estimates of time, costs and manpower requirements. Outlines project requirements, assigns tasks and supervises progress to ensure that objectives are being met. Provides technical direction to project team members. Functions as a working team member. Troubleshooting and fixing plant problems. Locate, order / buy, and specify hardware / software equipment and spares. Learn and understand Maintenance / Plant operations. Key Competencies: Customer Focus Functional / Technical Skills Organizing Planning Problem Solving Drive for Results Strategic Agility Written Communications What you need to succeed: BS Electrical Engineering plus at least 5 years of experience in the heavy industrial or process industries; Pulp & Paper experience preferred. Capital Project experience required; minimum 5 years' experience Desired Skills: Must have the drive and desire to advance into a supervisory or management position in the maintenance or operating department when opportunities become available.
