MSC is currently searching for a Research Scientist to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is full-time and it is on site in Bethesda, MD. Duties and Responsibilities: Performing a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include, but are not limited to: DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, DNA sequencing, RNA isolation, etc. Benchtop molecular or cellular immunology are advantageous, but not required. Generating laboratory records to support laboratory research and independently performing necessary calculations (eg serial dilutions, molar concentrations etc.). Writing report(s) of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved and results of experiments. Interpreting, evaluating and discussing the results of each experiment with the supervisor as part of the planning process for subsequent studies and present these findings in individual weekly meetings with supervisor as well has lab group meetings. Providing training to students and other laboratory personnel in the use of sophisticated laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures, techniques, etc. Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc. required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc. Keep up with scientific literature for new methods and procedures that may be considered for application or modification to selected experiments; daily records of experiments and results in pen in bound laboratory notebooks; making minor modifications or adaptations to established methods, procedures and/or techniques to solve problems in the work. Write reports of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved and results of experiments. Interpret, evaluate and discuss the results of each experiment with mentors and laboratory team as part of the planning process for subsequent studies. Assist in maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment and in managing biological materials. Assist in training students and other laboratory personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures and techniques. Actively supervising and mentoring students toward the progression of their project and career goals. This scientist will work collaboratively with numerous lab members on a variety of projects and will serve as a mentor to trainees in addition to his/her own experiments. Research Scientist Position Requirements: Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline (eg Molecular Immunology, Molecular Biology). Completed postdoctoral research training with emphasis on molecular and cellular immunology. Experience with RNA seq, computational biology techniques, Unix, R are advantageous.
