Commissioning Specialist: The Commissioning Specialist's primary role is to oversee Commissioning Services to ensure that projects are designed, installed, and functionally tested to satisfy the project design intent. The qualified individual will ensure that a proven combination of administrative and field/site-based procedures are implemented professionally and communicated proficiently in a well-organized and technical manner for all phases of work. The Commissioning Specialist should require little or no supervision to manage a portfolio of significant and complex projects and assignments in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Must have a demonstrated ability to analyze and troubleshoot - to investigate and identify problems, compile pertinent information, and determine suitable solutions. Candidates should also be versed in facility audits and assessments - able to inspect MEP systems and prepare evaluations of configuration, condition, and maintenance recommendations relating to operability, reliability, and energy efficiency based on survey observations and interviews with facilities staff. The Commissioning Specialist must have a complete understanding of complex project technical design and operational requirements for all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, coordination between engineering disciplines and architectural requirements, engineering calculations, specifications, equipment selections and scheduling, cost estimating, and schedule requirements. The selected employee must be able to provide constructive input as an effective and contributing member in a project team environment. The Commissioning Specialist shall provide guidance and technical direction to support team members including Commissioning Technicians, other Engineers/Designers, and Administrative support staff. Key requirements and typical responsibilities include: Must have at least five (5) years of proven field commissioning experience involving commercial HVAC, MEP, and Automated Controls systems. A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred, though not explicitly required. Commissioning Certification(s) from BCA, ACG, ASHRAE, etc. are preferred. Direct experience in Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) and/or Automatic Temperature Controls (ATC) is beneficial. Coordinate with all disciplines working on projects. Quality Control - Review of the MEP technical design and coordination for assigned projects (technical reviews such as loads, calculations, equipment selection, etc). Supervise Commissioning Technicians and Administrative staff. Draft Commissioning/technical specifications. Review/Evaluate engineering calculations. Review equipment submittals and shop drawings. Review/Evaluate equipment selections and scheduling. Review cost estimates. Accurately and concisely explain observations and technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences using both verbal and written communication. Attend technical meetings. Chair/Conduct Commissioning meetings. Contribute to division technical training sessions and provide input for future technical training sessions. Assist with marketing of additional services to clients. Active role in the production of material for client interviews. Attends Client Interviews when required. Attends Trade Shows and Technical Conferences when required. Attends Professional Association meetings and takes on an active role in the associations.
