Maintains good customer relations and applies technical skills and knowledge of industry standards and plumbing codes to all work. May provide training and technical guidance to lower level Plumbing Service Technicians. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DEPENDING ON LOCATION:(NOTE: The duties listed below are examples of the variety and general nature of those performed by employees in this job title. Incumbents are frequently cross-trained and may perform any combination of the following duties/responsibilities. These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.)Locates and diagnoses plumbing problems. Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe or other problems from repairs.May study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.Provides a description of diagnosed problems to customer in terms that can be understood with options, as possible. Explains the features and benefits of each solution. Obtains agreement for services and/or installation before performing work.Installs, inspects, repairs and maintains water, gas and sewer lines and systems. Clears clogged lines and repairs leaks.Repairs and installs plumbing pipes, traps, washbowls, fittings, drains, sprinklers, backflow preventers, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, disposals, water softeners and faucets.Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level and plumb bob.Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe threading machine. Bends pipe to required angle.Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of metals, glass, vitrified clay and plastic, using hand tools and power tools.Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder and plastic solvent and by caulking joints.Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.Responds to emergencies and/or service calls and troubleshoots plumbing problems for resolution.Ensures that all plumbing repairs and installations are accurate, serviceable and meet code parameters. Ensures that materials used and workmanship meets specifications and plumbing code.Provides cost estimates for residential and commercial plumbing services.Contacts supervisor or dispatch to discuss any problems on the job.Maintains and fuels vehicle and stocks the service truck with adequate parts.Transports materials and tools to the job site and provides proper accounting of tools.Completes all required documentation on services and collects, records and delivers fees to the office.Provides on-the-job training and support to assigned Apprentice Helpers.May photograph the condition of pipe or hangers in drain lines.Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area.Observes all safety and Company rules and regulations in the performance of duties.Other duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS (in coordination with technical training modules, not all-inclusive):Understand and be able to apply math concepts on the job and the six machines: inclined planes, levers, pulleys, wedges, screws and wheels and axlesBe able to install vents in a DWV systemHave a direct knowledge of installation, diagnosis and repair of pumps, controls, sumps in sewage and storm water removal systemsKnow the techniques for sizing water supply systemsUnderstand the different types of backflow prevention and water pressure boosters and recirculation systemsBe able to diagnose and repair water supply and drainage piping, water heaters and other appliances and fixtures.We offer year round work, company truck, equipment, Plumber uniforms and a complete package including a 401(k), medical, dental, life and vision benefits.MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required as well as a minimum of four (4) years of plumbing training or completion of an approved apprentice program. Must have a minimum of 2-4 years of related plumbing service experience in addition to training. Related experience and/or advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. An unrestricted Journeyman license is desired. Knowledge of local and national plumbing code is required. A valid driver's license and good communications skills are required.Journeyman plumber gasfitter license in Md or WSSC.
