As an Estimator, you will be supporting our client, a design-build firm located in Fredericksburg, VA. Job Responsibilities The Estimator is accountable for the quality of work and results for the estimating team including evaluating bid specifications and drawings and ensuring that everything required for successfully bidding and profitably executing the work is known. The Estimator must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. Estimators also work with the Project Management teams (QC Managers, Project Field Supervisors, Project Accountants) to follow-up on bids and budgets to close business and projects to generate results. Additional responsibilities include: Estimates design-build, bid-build, IDIQ and Task Order Contracts and has worked on federal, state and commercial projects Prepares and maintains status of plan reproduction Solicits and maintains communication with subcontractors and vendors Prepares subcontractor bid packages Transmits addenda and other bid information to subcontractors Ensures that we have the proper coverage from subcontractors on bid day Contacts supply houses to obtain additional subcontractor bids Shows creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors Submits 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline- no exceptions Enters all relevant information into the estimating software package Project Knowledge Reviews bid requirements thoroughly and asks follow-up question on every bid Has a thorough understanding of the scope for specific trades assigned Develops RFI's, clarifications, ensures adequate subcontractor coverage and shows interest Performs a comprehensive "bid day" analysis and scopes for specific assigned trades Understands how to fit subs to the size / scope of project Creates bid lists that fit scope of job and ensures that we have the right subs for the project Minimizes exclusions by "doing our homework" Includes value-engineering ideas on every bid Follow Up & Closing Consistently follows-up on submitted bids and budgets with Architect and Construction Manager to finalize projects and close business Knows architects, engineering firms, construction managers, subcontractors, partners, brokers and can close business Properly turns over bid documents and sub buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner as goal is 100% of awarded projects turned over within 24 hours of notification Reviews drawings with Project Management team and highlights any areas of concern Specific qualifications for the Estimator role include: Must have a minimum of 8 to 10 years of estimating experience Experience understanding and estimating design-build, bid-build, IDIQ, Task Order Contracts and has worked with federal, state and commercial projects Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing Must know Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel and MS Project Must be self-motivated & punctual Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow-up skills both internally and externally Benefits Our client offers a comprehensive benefit package which includes: Medical Dental Vision Profit Sharing / 401K Personal Time Off Package Paid Holidays Employer Paid Long Term Disability and Life Insurance Flexible Spending Account Employee Referral Program Voluntary benefits Free onsite yoga classes Training and Education Quarterly Team Building Events Build a better construction career with RealStreet and contact us today!
