BROAD FUNCTION: The Associate Clinician has a Bachelor's degree in a rehabilitation or mental health field with knowledge and demonstrable skill in meeting the environmental, personal care, psychological and basic physical needs of consumers with major mental illness, frail because of age and/or debilitation medical condition. He/she has education and experience in developing and maintaining a therapeutic treatment environment, observing consumers and documenting treatment information. The Associate Clinician is responsible for implementing assigned supervising treatment and education activities and interventions for adult consumers assigned to the residential program and their families. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts day-to-day training of consumers in the program, including hands on assistance with the provision of supportive counseling, daily living and social skills training, therapeutic activities and other interventions as assigned by the Residence Manager. Maintains the clinical record for assigned consumers to include: documentation of services and response to treatment to include timely completion of: appropriate documentation of each treatment intervention and the effects of the intervention at the time that it occurs; weekly and monthly summaries of interventions and observations; communication across shifts and disciplines; Shift log documentation as required by policy. assurance that all assigned clinical records are complete and accurate. Ensures that all treatment interventions for assigned consumers are scheduled, assigned and completed. These may include: development and maintenance of therapeutic alliance with all residents in the home; implementation of therapeutic activities including recreational activities, social skills training and training in activities of daily living; development of a therapeutic milieu including the management of conflict among residents; direct assistance with residents' personal and physical care; application of basic principles of behavior management by reinforcing appropriate behavior and reducing or eliminating inappropriate behavior; EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor's degree in a mental health or rehabilitation field. At least one year's experience providing direct care to persons with mental illness and/or chronic medical conditions is required, preferably in a residential setting. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures and operations. Skill in verbal and written communication. Ability to maintain working relationships. Ability to assist consumers with all aspects of ADL's including: bathing, dressing, cleaning, laundry, transportation, maintaining medical and mental health appointments, medications and basic treatments, activities, social and treatment plan goals. Ability to follow and plan schedule to assist clients with treatment plan goals. Ability to document in clinical record and other clinical rates per policy, services and responses to treatment on daily, weekly, monthly and PRN basis. Ability to assess consumers for status change; ie, medical, med side effects and report same to medical staff. Valid Drivers License Required
