Career Opportunity Position Senior Accountant - Derivative Accounting Location Newark, DE Responsible for exhibiting Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's Mission, Vision and Values, regarding external customers, agencies, vendors, internal departments and co-workers. This position is responsible for performing general ledger accounting duties for all of the Company's unregulated energy units, which include recording journal entries, performing accounting reconciliations, preparing account analysis, and providing accounting, financial reporting and other operation specific information. This position is also responsible for providing assistance in various business unit specific analysis and tasks (ie, revenue-related taxes, budget/forecast process, regulatory reporting, and preparation for business unit specific meetings). Primary duties and responsibilities include Maintaining accounting records for various regulated energy/unregulated energy operations of the Company. Preparing timely and accurate analytics, which include variance analysis, key account analytics (ie, margin analysis). Prepare the business unit specific financial reporting information (ie, Monthly Income Statement and Balance sheet variance analysis, regulatory P&L, regulatory filing). Perform timely account reconciliation. Participating discussions with the senior management and business unit leaders in reviewing accounting records and analysis, SOX controls and proper accounting support. Assist in various regulatory proceedings, as they relate to accounting information and record. Coordinating with other accounting groups (financial reporting, tax compliance, fixed assets, AP) and other corporate departments (treasury) to ensure proper flow of information. Identifying gaps in accounting procedures and controls and assisting in improving them for increased efficiency and enhanced control. Assist in efficiency assessment to improve the overall accounting functions. Participating in special projects as needed and requested. Requires a total commitment to Chesapeake Utilities Corporation's Mission, Vision and Values and Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Familiarity with general ledger and financial reporting systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Independent thinker. Proficient in Microsoft office Previous experience in a risk or middle office function, or have held a position as a Derivative Accountant. We are seeking someone that has experience with ETRM (Energy Trading Risk Management Systems) and ERP software. Understanding of hedge and derivative accounting (ASC815), hedge structuring, price volatility, counterparty credit management, risk assessment, trading operations, the gas market value chain, and asset optimization.
