The Position Working out of the Washington, DC office, and reporting to the CFO, the director of accounting maintains financial and accounting records, analyzes financial data, and provides support to other teams, including field accountants, fundraising and programs. Essential Functions and Responsibilities * Supervise the staff accountant * Analyze and reconcile financial data * Communicate with Field Financial managers * Consolidate accounting database * Reconcile bank accounts * Review and post daily and monthly transactions * Prepare monthly financial reports * Process monthly cost allocations * Assist with annual budget preparation * Prepare audit schedules, financial records for audit, and serve as liaison with engagement team * Communicate with Fundraising team regarding donations received * Reconcile financial grants expenses and recognize revenue * Prepare Indirect Cost Rate proposal for negotiating with cognizant agent * Prepare information and schedules for IRS Form 990 and other required tax filings Assist with preparation of PVO filing Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Ability to use the MIP Sage Accounting software is preferred * Previous accounting or financial experience in a non-profit setting preferred. * Ability to communicate effectively with auditors, vendors, and federal agencies Requirements * Minimum 5 years experience in progressively responsible accounting positions * Experience managing staff * Bachelor degree or equivalent experience Working Conditions * This position description should not be construed to imply that the requirements are the sole standards for the position.
