The George Mason University Facilities Department is currently seeking candidates for the position of Plumber on the Fairfax, Va., campus. Duties: Under supervision, the successful candidate will: * Perform journey-level steam fitting and plumbing maintenance; * Troubleshooting, repair, and/or renovation of buildings, facilities, and equipment in one or more of the following areas: underground piping systems, building piping fixtures, and building equipment and controls; * Inspect buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain needed repairs; and * Make recommendations and follow up to the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:
Knowledge: * Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions; * Knowledge of job codes, rules and regulations; * Working knowledge of installation and maintenance as they relate to building codes, rules and regulations; and * Working knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of water and steam systems and related equipment.
Skills: * Journey-level skill in maintenance and repair procedures including maintenance, breakdown repair, and troubleshooting; * Construction, installation and fabrication techniques typical in trade; * Perform mathematical computation of trade; and * Problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
Abilities: * Strong demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and systems diagrams; * Ability to observe and practice working habits and maintain security of buildings and systems to effectively work individually or in teams, as well as with diverse groups; * Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; * Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment, subject to frequently changing priorities; * Ability to follow through and carry out assignments; and * Ability to understand and apply university and departmental policies and procedures.
A valid driverâ€™s license is required.
