The Montgomery County Department of Recreation is seeking a dynamic and experienced, full time Division Chief who will oversee programs and services to determine efficiency and effectiveness of current programs and services, the need for new programs and to assure that the needs of our customers are continually being met. The Division Chief is also responsible for overseeing the revenue generating units of the Department including Aquatics, Classes, Camps, Sports, Trips and Tours to include development, administration and modifications to operating budgets to ensure that cost recovery targets are being met.  This position will provide customer-focused leadership, inspire teamwork, motivate employees, provide work direction through clear articulation of work projects and goals and create a positive and productive work environment that utilizes a participative management style.

The successful candidate will have proven ability in recreation programming, management, communication skills as well as an aptitude for clear, concise and direct communication. Responsibilities include: communicating plans to supervisor, colleagues, and community stakeholders; identifying resource needs; identifying trends in recreation and required program modifications to meet community needs; initiating or modifying programs based on analysis to meet community needs; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, including the flexibility and adaptability to work in a variety of situations that are changing and/or have competing priorities; preparing written documents and making oral presentations to high level managers and elected officials. Additionally, the successful candidate will have skills to develop and maintain meaningful partnerships and collaborations with other agencies, non-profits and community based organizations to extend our mission.

All assignments have weekend and evening requirements to support program, and includes occasional holiday work.  This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside of the office. 

The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee.  Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

As a manager/supervisor of unionized employees, this position has a responsibility for fostering a positive labor relations environment based on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in a field related to the area of Recreation Management, three years of which were in a supervisory or executive capacity. Note: The term "executive" is further defined as a high echelon or high level position in an organization that is assigned technical research, management advisory services responsibilities, or policy-making duties and responsibilities that exerts considerable influence on organizational policy, plans, and operations through technical research, management advisory services, and/or policy-making duties and responsibilities.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.

Equivalency:  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
