Candidate will work in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and non-GLP research environments in BSL-3 laboratory environments.2. Candidate will monitor animals and complete clinical observations (rodents, rabbits, non-human primates) post-exposure to identify signs of infection in accordance with GLP.3. Candidate will perform animal manipulations such as bleeds, immunizations, anesthesia administration and euthanasia plating of blood to determine bacteremia.4. Candidate will provide technical and logistical research protocol support for investigators in BSL-3 bio-containment by providing animal care and maintaining daily operations of the non-human primate section that includes African Green monkeys, rhesus macaques, and cynomolgus macaques.5. Candidate will be responsible for supplying technical and logistical research protocol support for investigators in BSL-3 bio-containment by providing animal care and maintaining daily operations of the Small Animal Section that includes mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and rats.6. Candidate will perform intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, vaccinations, bleeds, treatments, daily observations, and necropsies according to protocol requirements. 7. Candidate will be able to perform animal husbandry, monitor quality of food and enrichment programs, and document clinical observations and environmental monitoring according to GLP standards8. Candidate will have received and continue to receive the necessary vaccinations against anthrax, smallpox, tularemia and other disease-causing agents as needed.9. Candidate will be knowledgeable in microbiology techniques including cultivation, storage, identification and manipulation of a wide variety of pathogenic bacterial strains.10. Candidate will be able to prepare and analyze biological samples using molecular biology techniques to include PCR assay, microarray or other identification techniques.11. Candidate will perform microbiological tasks with viable Bacillus anthracis spores and cells, Yersinia pestis, Burkholderia mallei and pseudomallei, Brucella spp., Coxiella burnetii, Francisella tularensis or other pathogens in a BL-3 containment suite. Must determine the viability of suspensions of B. anthracis cells or spores and other organisms by plating onto nutrient agar media. Must be able to prepare and sterilize bacteriological media, reagents, and laboratory supplies. Must be able to prepare tissue cultures from animal cells. 12. Candidate will be able and willing to work in BSL-3 containment with select agents.13. Candidate will work with animals used in experiments including restraint, bleeding, immunizations, and necropsy, and be able to support a variety of animal studies by administering therapeutic compounds to animals by a variety of routes of administration.14. Candidate will participate in aerosol challenge of various species of lab animals with anthrax spores, or viable cultures of other agents as well as animal monitoring during experiments and performing necropsies as needed for tissue collection.15. Candidate will prepare antibiotics for administration to animals in support of therapeutic experiments.16. Candidate will work in close coordination with other government contractors and government employees in studies of B. anthracis, Y. pestis, Burkholderia mallei, Francisella tularensis or other pathogens therapeutics and vaccines to bacterial diseases.17. Candidate work involves specialized knowledge and experience to conduct regulatory laboratory studies for early and advanced "tech base" candidate medical products. Laboratory activities usually require compliance with and a working knowledge of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), or Good Clinical Practices (cGCP).18. Maintains the clinical laboratory information system for all clinical laboratories and select agent repository for the laboratory. Performs or participates in the performance of a variety of clinical laboratory examinations, including, but not exclusive of, the following tests, procedures, examinations, and evaluations on the blood, urine, and other body fluids obtained from experimentally infected laboratory animals: specimen referral; clinical chemistry; hematology; urinalysis; microbiology.19. Candidate will maintain laboratory records in a neat and orderly fashion and participate/present during group discussion of results when required.20. Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.21. The contract employee must complete mandatory Federal, DoD, Army, and USAMRIID trainings as required.22.
