GAF is looking for a Logistics Supervisor who will be directly responsible for supervising the shipping/warehouse operation, and personnel. The incumbent will work closely with transportation, receiving and production planning. The Logistics Supervisor will be responsible for achieving excellence in executing and controlling shipping/warehousing operations. This includes direct supervision of all shipping personnel, dock coordinators, vendors and contractors, facilities and equipment in or associates with the operations. The Logistics supervisor will follow up on shipping/warehouse activities including daily carrier-load tendering, outbound shipments, inbound receipts, outbound and inbound railcars, and adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for creating a safe work environment, in which all employees and vendors adhere to operations policies and all work is performed in a safe manner. This position will have overall responsibility for the shipping/warehouse supervision function, equipment maintenance, scheduling, daily inventory space, quality standards, and operating efficiently to ensure department goals and metrics are exceeded. The Logistics Supervisor is also responsible for the general housekeeping of the warehouse, assigning tasks as needed to maintain a safe, neat, and orderly environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIESPlan and direct shipping/warehouse activities to meet or exceed safety goals, service metrics, shipping/warehouse budget compliance, transportation lane compliance and service reliability targets. Manage labor - schedule shipping work hours to minimize operating costs while meeting the needs of the customers and carriers. Make labor assignments to effectively handle volume and meet the rules of the collective bargaining agreement. Provide supervision and direction to shipping/warehouse and receiving team, assuring all jobs are performed safely. Continually develop and implement operating standards and procedures to improve efficiencies.Oversee inbound and outbound shipping activities; monitor performance of operators against standard operating procedures, identify areas for improvement and implement resolution. Handle all customer service compliance in regard to shipment, damage, and errors. Assure that service and cost performance metrics are exceeded. Champion the Warehouse Improvement Process (WIP), ensuring that the warehouse /shipping team follows the process, minimizing labor cost, reporting weekly metrics, conducting self-audits, meeting WIP goals (pallets handled/hour, labor cost per pallet handled). Identify process failures that led to missed goals and develop and communicate continuous improvement plans to achieve WIP goals.Provide proper training to shipping employees in the area of safety, operating procedures and quality standards. Manage team to exceed site safety goals by instilling a culture of safety. Create a safe work environment by developing safe work practices and enforcing compliance with company/site safety policies, OSHA or other regulatory agencies. Provide training and review/update Job Safety Analysis (JSA). Ensure good housekeeping and provide excellent leadership in the safety area.Ensure accurate usage of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) in shipping, receiving, and all product movement. Manage inventory; oversee the day to day warehouse operation and inventory control to ensure there is sufficient daily production space, product is accurately counted, properly stored and rotated (FIFO). Validate cycle counts are complete and accurate. Work with Inventory Supervisor to evaluate and resolve root causes for inventory discrepancies.Manage forklift inventory. Provide annual forklift safety training and certifications and ensure lift trucks are operated in compliance with OSHA standards. Ensure that a routine lift truck maintenance program is in place as related to work orders and PMs. Ensure all pre- and post-shift equipment inspections are conducted. Identify and schedule equipment maintenance needs. Enter information in tracking website and monitor forklift usage - recommend adjustments to maximize utilization. Maintain compliance - provide Forklift training and certifications. Generate reports or other written correspondence needed to ensure proper administration of the department. Manage budget - order supplies and process invoices required for shipping/warehouse operations. Ensure that paperwork is properly maintained, accurately summarized, and forwarded to the appropriate parties in a timely manner.Perform other duties as assigned.
