The Mission Planning IT Specialist supports the Special Operations Mission Planning Environment (SOMPE) hardware and software configuration; this includes, but not limited to: Upgrade installations, revision installation, replacements, monthly updates, and virus protection upgrades. The successful candidate will be motivated; team oriented; and have a drive to make a difference in warfighting capabilities.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

    Perform initial on site analysis of software and hardware problems found by userMaintain and update Geospatial Information Services (GIS) servers with the most current National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) chart and other digital map dataMaintain mission planning deployment kits for offsite useMaintain SOMPE fly-away laptops for daily usePerform system and network administrator duties on systems configured in workgroups or domain controlled configurationsSupport unit needs during exercises, daily training, deployments, and real-world contingenciesConduct platform and one-on-one application use instructionConduct routine inventories and operational checks on Depot certified MPE systemsAdhere to software configuration management principles set forth by the AFSOC Depot or other applicable agency Provide software maintenance in the form of inspections and tests of all network and user software prior to installationProduce customized map and imagery loads for usersPerform cloning and imaging of media for issue to usersAssist the site lead and component representative with advice and /or analysis as requiredProvide software and system expertise as local site subject matter expert on platform specific Mission Planning Environments (MPE)
 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

    Possess five (5) years mission planning experienceExperience with Special Operations Forces (SOF) using automated mission planning tools in operational environments including the use of threat data, automated intelligence feeds, global positioning system devicesMinimum of five (5) years of experience using Microsoft Operating Systems, to include Windows 7, Windows Server, Windows Media Server and Geospatial Library (GPL) architecture requiredExperience with mission planning software such as PFPS, SAMS ESA, and / or Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS)Minimum four (4) years mission planning experience preferably in SOF Flying operationsExperience with DoD mission planning/execution/brief and debriefing systems, specialized airdrop (e.g. JPADS), cargo or refueling software/systems, administering infrastructure support client and/or server systems both on and off DoD networks desired and/or operational crew experience requiredDemonstrated experience administering infrastructure support to mainframe and / or client server systemsDoD Information Assurance IAT Level-II Certification (Sec+ CE required for continued employment)Ability to analyze/troubleshoot hardware, software, and Windows operating systems requiredKnowledge of networking hardware/software over classified and unclassified government networks requiredAbility to apply computer security policy, procedures, and protective measures required
Education Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

 

DoDI 8570.01m Certification required (IAT-II compliant): Minimum Security + CE

Qualifications 5-8 years of directly related experience in systems administration and analysis.

The work is typically performed in an office environment. However, contingency/exercise environments are part of the duties.

Possible short term TDYs to meet with users

Must be able to obtain a passport for OCONUS travel, if required
