 The U.S. Soccer Foundation’s programs are the national model for sports-based youth development in underserved communities. Since its founding in 1994, the Foundation has established programs proven to help children embrace an active and healthy lifestyle while nurturing their personal growth beyond sports. Its cost-effective, high-impact initiatives offer safe environments where kids and communities thrive.

                                             The Director of National Program Expansion will be responsible for leading the planning and implementation of the expansion of Soccer for Success and Safe Places to Play.  In this role, the Director will play a lead role in cultivating new public private partnerships with cities, MLS teams and other corporate and foundation sponsors to support the Foundation’s goal of creating new mini-pitches by 2026.  Additionally, the Director will lead the Expansion team, working closely with the California Director and Assistant Directors to build partnerships locally and nationally that keep the Foundation on track to meet its 2026 goal of engaging more participants annually in Soccer for Success. The Director will act as the liaison between the Expansion team and the Operations team for both programs, to ensure balance between sale of new partnerships, onboarding of new partnerships and operations and implementation. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred
  • Eight or more years of professional experience in nonprofit management, focusing on program development and implementation, and youth development
  • Familiarity with soccer and an understanding of using sports for social change
  • Demonstrated commitment to issues impacting children and families
  • Experience working with underserved communities
  • Experience managing multifaceted campaigns resulting in measurable successes and program growth, developing multi-level partnerships with program and fundraising partners
  • Experience working with government agencies to implement programs
  • Experience in building or participating in Public Private Partnerships
  • Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Outstanding oral communication, writing, and presentation skills - ability to persuasively convey and build support for U.S. Soccer Foundation programs to diverse groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a dynamic environment with rapidly evolving priorities
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the U.S. Soccer Foundation mission
  • Travel, evening, and weekend work is sometimes required

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Operating Officer to sign cities and teams to multi-year, multi-pitch agreements through the formation of public private partnerships
  • Direct Expansion team to meet annual Soccer for Success goals through new municipal partnerships, growth of national partnerships and adding new operators in existing Soccer for Success markets
  • Manage the budget for the Expansion team, accountable for all expenses and supporting quarterly financial reporting
  • Lead monthly review of progress to goal in all areas identifying best practices to disseminate to other leads as well as areas for improved operations or efficiencies
  • Participate in the quarterly dashboard review, offer insights and feedback for the team to continuously improve process and meet goals faster
  • Support fundraising consultants to recruit and sign corporate sponsors for multi-pitch initiatives
  • Act as bridge between operations/implementation teams and the expansion team to ensure appropriate resource allocation to each team, a smooth hand off of partnerships from sales to implementation, and ensure continuous, clear communications between teams
  • Provide strategic guidance to expansion team to support achieving annual goals for pitches and participation
  • Contribute strategic thinking and insights for organizational management as a member of the senior leadership of the Foundation
