The selectee for this position will serve as an Attorney (Deputy Director) in the International and Operational Law Division of CIVLAWSUPTACT ALEXANDRIA VA.

This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service.

  • Requirements:

    All qualifications requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

    Upon Selection the following documents will be requested:

    An official certificate showing that the applicant is a member of the Bar.

    An official transcript of the applicant's law school record together with an official statement of his/her relative standing in his/her class. However, if the individual has been a member of the Bar for 5 years or more, the transcript requirement may be waived.

    An official statement that his/her fitness to practice law or his/her conduct as an attorney has never been challenged. If either his/her fitness or conduct has been challenged, an official statement concerning the facts and circumstances together with any explanation that the applicant himself/herself may wish to submit.

    Selectees may be required to successfully complete a two year probationary period.

    Selectees may be required to complete a one year supervisory probation period.

    The selectee is required to meet one or more of these employment conditions before the appointee will receive a tentative offer of employment. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to report to any of the scheduled appointments, fails the medical/agility/drug test, lacks the certification requirements, or is unable to obtain a Top secret security clearance. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.

    Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

    Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

    Must have a J.D. Degree from an ABA accredited law school, be a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State of the United States or a Territory of the United States, and have legal experience in excess of 2 years as is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of this position.

    PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    If you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.     Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.     ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS (ADSM)

    Are you an active duty service member with a statement of service showing that you expect to be honorably discharged or released no later then 120 days after submitting your application?
