JOB SUMMARY:



This position is located in the National Gallery of of Art, Facilities Management Division, Operations Department. The purpose of the positon is to supervise the work of USRO-related workers in order to maintain the proper environment within the Gallery for works of art, staff members, and visitors to the Gallery.

The incumbent serves as the senior HVAC system supervisor on the shift and is relied upon to operate, maintain, regulate, facilitate, repair, and solve virtually all problems that arise on the shift. The incumbent is responsible for the smooth running of the HVAC system in all its many aspects and facets in all of the areas that the system covers including the many areas where priceless and delicate art treasures are present.

  • Physical Requirements: Physical requirements: Work may require climbing ladders, scaffolding and platforms or similar exertion. Full use of the senses including hearing, sight, smell and touch is required. Crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting objects weighing over 80 pounds are required. Position requires prolonged standing and extended walking on concrete and marble floors.

    Candidates must meet the supervisory and qualification requirements for WS-4742-10 which include possession of the following job elements:

    1. Ability to supervise (Screen-out element)

    2. Ability to perform the duties of the position

    3. Knowledge of HVAC/mechanical equipment assembly, installation, and repair

    4. Use of measuring instruments

    5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)

    6 . Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment

    7. Knowledge of materials

    8. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical/HVAC systems problems.
